In 1987 I "desecrated" many of my first acrylic paintings that were not done with fluid acrylic paints. The purpose of the desecration was to make them into abstractions which were, in my opinion, more interesting then the original figurative work. The overpaint was intended to obfuscate some of the figurative underpainting leaving a vestige of the previous work behind. The paintings were slashed and then stitched together before I painted over them with fluid acrylic paint. I slashed them because I was not happy with the results achieved in many of my first attempts to use acrylic paints (mixed with retarding agents to slow their drying) to create representational work..
