The equations presented in this painting are the equations which form the basis of what is known as Horndeski Scalar-Theory. See the Wikipedia article on "Horndeski Theory," for a few more details about this theory. Actually I left out a factor of 2 in the second term of the expression for the Lagrangian L_4. I corrected this error before selling this piece to the Lorentz Institute in 2019.
